In Conversation with Kristi Head of Lite+Cycle

Striving to find everyday products that combine beautiful design and responsible production we were introduced to Lite + Cycle, launched by Los Angeles based artist and designer Kristi Head in 2013. [caption id="attachment_5161" align="aligncenter" width="800"]

Kristi Head, founder and creator at Lite+Cycle[/caption] [read_more] Lite + Cycle essential oil candles are one of the purist scented candles on the market. Lite + Cycle scents are blended from raw elements found in nature and extracted through the cleanest methods available. Each pillar is made with renewable biodegradable materials, 100% non-GMO, natural vegetable waxes, 100% pure essential oils and a cotton wick. Urban Forest[/caption] There are currently 5 scented candles in the collection including: Lavender, Vetiver, Urban Forest, Bergamot and Sage. In addition, she has recently added a custom designed candle holder made with a blend of concrete and recycled marble dust. Kristi was kind enough to let us pick her brain on the topic of sustainability and manufacturing: On sustainable BRANDS  There quite a few fashion and lifestyle brands that I like that combine design and responsible production. A couple are Araks LingerieCoclico (of course), Warby Parker and Numi Organic Tea, and Nau clothing. However, I think the most exciting thing happening in sustainability is new materials. The company Bio Couture in the UK, for a example, is a biocreative agency that helps brands imagine future biodesigns. They work with nature’s sustainable materials like fungi, algae and yeast to create new materials by growing them, not manufacturing them. On ACCOUNTABILITY I think that there are a growing number of companies see the value in being more transparent about how things get made not just the end result. That transparency leads to accountability. I am not certain that customers are demanding it, so much as they are responding positively to it.  As a customer and a brand creator I find it much more inspiring to be in the know. The more a brand tells me the more I trust them and will continue to purchase from them. At LITE+CYCLE we value transparency as much as ethics, sustainability and wellness for ourselves and our customers. Lite + Cycle candles are currently available in our store at 275 Mott St. NYC and online.
