Fall 2015 Inspiration: Black is Black

The Coclico F/W15 collection, Black is Black, explores limitlessness as an expression of all colours and the absorption of light. The collection is a celebration of black as the perfect skin to reveal the new sculptural identity of our F/W15 silhouettes. [caption id="attachment_5018" align="aligncenter" width="385"]

Black. black. Black. Black! Black & Black?[/caption] [read_more] Here is there: The collection emphasizes edge; it is sharp, angular, elongated, a break from the static nature of the grid. Pulling inspiration from the work of photographer Francesca Woodman our silhouettes explore the realm of the zigzag. This movement represents choice and life's highs and lows, like the spectrum of colour from black to white or an interesting journey marked by our decisions and navigation. Untitled, Providence, Rhode Island, 1976, by Francesca Woodman[/caption] Polished opposition: A new emphasis on polish is introduced with taut calfskin that enhances the subtle angles and structure of shape.  Softness is created with washed lambskin, and is used as a counterpoint to the more rigorous constructions. Wood, a Coclico essential emerges in a buffed sheen. The core of our story is black but it interplays with the reflective aspect of soft whites and metallic accents. All other hues are imbued with black undertones. [caption id="attachment_5024" align="aligncenter" width="474"]

The WHIT bootie in black, Coclico F/W 2015.[/caption] A woman's woman: Our muses are masters of ambiguous style; women who embody confidence and distinction, women that transcend gender yet somehow hold an unrefuted claim on femininity. Tilda Swinton and Kate Moennig exemplify these qualities of style, always at ease in what they wear and each entirely herself. Swinton’s choices are cerebral and daring, while Moennig is pure tomboy with carnal undercurrents. [caption id="attachment_5025" align="aligncenter" width="424"]

Kate Moennig[/caption] Coclico style explores this ambiguity. Clean silhouette in rich leathers provide a foundation for personal expression.  Like our zigzag and our black it is a template for a range of possibilities.

Yours,

                Lisa
